Like Whoopi Goldberg,I grew up watching Star Trek and finding Ms. Nichols as a role model. Even now, I'm glad her portrayal of Lt. Uhura help destroy some the negative images of Black women.
Even today this woman is STILL GORGEOUS!!!

C'mon let's hear it for Uhura!!!

I'll second that! I remember growing up and being flat-out amazed at seeing Lt. Uhura on Star Trek. Even as a child I knew how important and pivotal the inclusion and depiction of Lt. Uhura was. For that matter, she's important even now, with so few good roles written for women in Hollywood. I remember feeling like my dreams and ambitions were acknowledged and confirmed every time I saw her on the bridge of the Enterprise. Despite not getting the lion's share of the limelight on the original show she remains one of my all-time favorite characters. She was intelligent, brave, talented, beautiful, an officer, and she ran with the big boys every week. I will always love her character and I'll never forget how her presence and class made me feel as if walking amongst the stars was within my reach like anyone else's.
