Due to the controversy, and the plain fact of the movie being bw/IR, I wasn't sure this would be the case. I haven't gone to see this movie yet, the movie lost some appeal for me when disney confirmed they were frogs for most of the movie. I guess frogs are a bit more imaginative, or maybe this proves how touchy the subject matter still is. Some people also don't like the stereotypical portrayal of the princess. It would be interesting to see what the demographics of the audience is.

Is anybody going to see this movie?

If you have already seen it, what is your view of the movie? Would you recommend it?

Yeah, I was less than excited that the first Black princess is a reptile (are frogs reptiles or amphibians...?) for the bulk of the movie. My little cousin saw it and she was pretty stoked about the princess being Black (she's 9), so I think its done its job. I asked her about the prince and she said she thought he was "Black Puerto-Rican," LOL. I think that's just what her mom told her.

My mom is flying in from Canada next week and my girls have been bugging me to see it since they first saw the trailers. I told them that when Grandma gets here, we'll all go see it. Even though they are frogs for most of the movie, I think it still has an impact for the girls to see a black princess in an IR. It's a big step for Disney. Now, I did hear that although it's done pretty well, it was the worst opening for a disney princess movie. That bugged me because we have to consider things like the crappy economy as well. I'm looking forward to seeing it and maybe there will be more to come if it continues to do well.

Maybe disney couldn't deal with a black princess for a full movie, this is no surprise from disney. They have princesses of all varieties, even a hawaiian princess, but the black one must be turned to a frog for most of the show. smh sad.gif

I saw Anika Noni Rose discussing it on The View and Whoopi Goldberg brought up that point. She said that she thought it gave Tiana the ability to have adventures other princesses couldn't have...I don't know if I buy that, but one step at a time, I guess. My sister said she was pissed the first Black princess was the first one with a goofy ass dude for a prince, LOL.
