VH1 TO AIR FIRST INTERRACIAL DATING SHOW: Reality series will feature a white father of two looking for black love.
*VH1 has reportedly given a green-light to "Interracial Love," a reality show about a white male looking to find an African American girlfriend.

Writer "Lynn" of VH1realityworld.com says the show will start casting in June for a fall 2008 premiere. The series will follow Tobias White and his two bi-racial sons Marcus and Zachary as they look to add a wife and mother to the family.

In an interview with Lynn last July, White explained his preference for black women. "I’m a white male and I’ve always dated only black women. I just always have," he said. "It’s not that I’m prejudiced against my own race, but it just seemed a better fit for me. And now I have two children that are bi-racial.

"I’ve seen so many shows like the Bachelor and now Age of Love, The Rock of Love and Joe Millionaire. They always have 19 or 20 white women on the show and they’ll have one black woman. It’s almost like it was set up for the black woman to get voted off.

"To me, with the mother of my kids being black, I think it’s a disrespectful thing. And I was just thinking one day about a year ago that this would be a good reality show. Me and my sons want a good woman in our lives, and who better to help me find my Queen, than my sons? Who knows me better than my sons?"

I think there is a post some time ago about this same topic but at the time it was thought that VH1 decided against it. Maybe now they had a change of heart or needed to work through some things (issues). Out of laziness, I did not search for it again, but I think this subject deserves a new post of its own.

I just hope the black women selected for this show do not act ghetto.

Also, I hope the guy looking for love has a say in the screening process and who makes the cut for the televised version.

So they went ahead and approved it. I'm glad because on these dating shows, the black women are usually just tokens.

Wow!!! That is wonderful!!! VH-1 knew they were wrong with all of the garbage they've been showing. I'm so excited!!! I'll be watching this fall!!! scream.gif

Remember it's still a reality show...which IMO seems to display the worst in human behavior! Regardless of the socio-economic levels of the female contestants, I hope the show delves a bit into our form of IR.

Wasn't this show canceled?

I thought VH1 decided not to do the show after all because they said that "portraying black women in a positive light won't sell. People only want to see ghetto black women."

I heard that it's going to air on BET instead around fall of 2008.

You might be right. I was just repeating something I saw on another board and it seems if that is/was VH1's opinion about it, then they probably won't air it and BET probably picked it up. Not that that is good news because now I am really afraid of how bw are going to be portrayed.

Whatever happened with this show. I was looking forward to it. Did it just drop of the face of the Earth?

They decided not to do it and I'm assuming because of the white male in pursuit of a black woman, but yet Ray-J gets a show with women of various races.

Ahhhh, Figured it was too good to be true.

exactly.gif but I don't see what the problem is because rembmer on New York she was black seeking men of all races. Is it because the person seeking would be a white male and the women would be all black and not a mixture? Is that just giving bw too much credibility or something?

Well maybe if they could get a celebrity who had a history of dating Black women on it they might have gone for it, over a none celebrity. Of course they would have thrown some White girls in the mix but they would probably have had more Black women to choose from.

I think maybe if someone famous like Kid Rock had requested the show they might have gone for it.

I don't think they wanna take a chance on an unknown person, especially one who only wants Black women.

Heck, I think if "Tailor Maid" or "White Boy" from the "I love New York" series had managed to pitch it they'd go for it but maybe I'm giving VH1 and MTV too much credit.

But considering they aired 3 seasons of that show with that Bi-Sexual woman who was trying to find love with guys and girls they should be open enough to go interracial if the right person pitched it.

But I dunno.

They are casting for a "The Bachelor" type show where a Bi-racial man has to choose a partner among a house of White women and Black women.

If they can make a show like this I don't see why that White man/Black women show fell through.

I would think this "Bi-racial show" would be more controversal in the sense of making a show purposely for the reason of forcing a Biracial man choose between Black and White women. I would watch it though just to see what the guy is like and I pray to Gawd the VH1 type standard of Black women aren't on there.

Maybe it's better that this show never got picked up. After viewing a number of these reality shows, I think the aim of the producers is to get people to make as big an ass of themselves as they can on-air. If there's any transracial drama to be had, they'll exploit that too. Most of these shows are full of the crassest, crudest behavior, and I think the earlier post that implied that VH1 didn't want it because it made Black women look good is actually probably the most accurate reason why it didn't get picked up. VH1 would never admit to that, of course, but that's very likely why.
